FRENTE ALIMENTA is a project run by INSTITUTO KAIRÓS,

who promotes responsible food production, distribution and consumption. FRENTE ALIMENTA is an initiative created to combat hunger and support small farmers, based on relationships of trust, affection and sustainability.

FRENTE ALIMENTA is a successful model of INNOVATION in SOCIAL TECHNOLOGY,

which proposes a prototype for a Food Acquisition Program within the city of São Paulo.

HOW?

BY…

directly connecting small farms and community kitchens, and feeding people in a situation of high social vulnerability.

BY…

fighting hunger through the regeneration of the environment, as FRENTE ALIMENTA buys produce from rural and urban agroecological small farmers.

BY…

offering financial security resources for small farmers, ensuring the purchase of their crop.

BY…

avoiding waste as food is delivered to be cooked immediately in the community kitchens, promoting its usage in full.

BY…

offering pesticide-free, high nutritional quality food made into full meals for people experiencing food insecurity.

BY…

donating any food remainders to the “FREE FARMERS MARKET” to ensure near zero waste. “FREE GROCERIES STALLS” are set up at strategic places in the communities served, where residents can help themselves for free.

BY…

accomplishing zero waste all around, from harvesting to the food delivery in FRENTE ALIMENTA’s returnable agricultural boxes that eliminate disposable packaging, meeting logistic and storage needs.

BY…

offering a healthy and tasty menu. Photos of the dishes are sent by the cooks to be evaluated by the FRENTE ALIMENTA team who also provides them with guidance on food preparation.

COMMUNITY KITCHENS

Born or strengthened during the pandemic, community kitchens bring back the best of the tradition of solidarity on the outskirts, are based on self-organization and are led mainly by women. The meals produced serve the homeless population and families experiencing severe food insecurity on the outskirts of the city. The cooks give up their time, effort and even their own kitchens to serve the public in their region. Frente Alimenta provides food, stipends and training for some kitchens.
